This method uses the high frequency sound waves which pass through materials. Ultrasound hitting an air space or an interface with a different material density is reflected back and shown on a display. |

1. High penetrating power. This allows the detection of flaws deep in the material.
2. High sensitivity, permitting the detection of extremely small flaws.
3. Only one surface need to be accessible.
4. Some capability of estimating the size, orientation, shape and nature of defects.
5. Non hazardous to operations or to nearby personnel and has no effect on equipment and materials in the vicinity.
6. Portable or highly automated operation.

NDT Instruction writing.
- PCN Level 2 - Forgings, Plate, Bars, Billets - NDT Instruction writing.
